You Can Get a Credit Card If You Have Bad Credit!

Posted by admin on May 25, 2010

The other day someone told me they couldn’t get a credit card because they had bad credit. They had bad credit because they had misused the credit they had been given in the first place. That’s not true in every case, the misuse, I mean. Many times it is just plain old bad luck due to the loss of a job, or illness or some catastrophic thing that no one can avoid. Those things are understandable.

If you are in this case the first thing I would recommend to you is get rid of the debt through a bankruptcy. The chances are you have tried everything else to get on top of your debt unsuccessfully. It won’t go away on it’s own and you will never have a healthy credit score with this hanging over your head. Next start rebuilding your credit. In today’s world everyone needs credit. Just try to rent a car or buy a plane ticket and you know all about that. But you must be responsible.

One way to rebuild your credit after a credit collapse is by getting a secured credit card. Is this difficult? Not at all, the amount of credit is secured by the deposit you make when you get the card. The important thing; is this type of credit card reports to the credit bureaus just like an unsecured card will and this will improve your credit score. By using the card sparingly and making your payments on time your credit score will rebound and you will find it is possible to apply for and receive an unsecured credit card. It won’t happen overnight but it will happen.

Additionally you should sign up to receive your credit reports at the prescribed intervals and you can see that it is improving. You can also keep on top of any errors that may be reported on your credit report and get those fixed right away. You can also keep on top of any attempt at identity theft, a major problem.

Is this something that you should (could) put off till tomorrow? It should be done ASAP. Your credit will not improve by itself! Start by getting rid of the bad debt by contacting one of our bankruptcy attorneys, then get yourself a secured credit card and start enjoying life again. Follow these steps and success is assured.
